Sports Buzz's Profile -- DJ

Although she began college as a chemistry scholar, it didn’t take long until the potent mixture of competition, heart and passion in sports fueled Julie Buehler’s goal of becoming a credible journalist.

Julie graduated from Northern Arizona University with a degree in broadcasting and minor in athletic coaching.

In 2003, while working concurrently for Associated Press as the Northern Arizona Sports Correspondent and for the local newspaper in Flagstaff, AZ, The Daily Sun, Julie competed with over 10,000 applicants in ESPN’s Dream Job competition to be offered the opportunity to host SportsCenter. Jules, as she was known by ESPN, was one of 35 finalists, and the only woman representing the Western Region.

Returning from the competition, Jules continued her sports writing, covering local high school sports, the Northern Arizona University football team, Arizona Cardinals, and Phoenix Suns training camps. She then parlayed her love for Northern Arizona sports onto the fastest growing radio station in the state. Jules co-hosted “Outtabounds” a Monday-Friday drive-time sports talk show with local broadcaster Mitch Strohman and interviewed the likes of Ben Howland, Emmit Smith, Stephon Marbury, and Amare Stoudemire… to name a few.

It wasn’t long until Jules took a position in the big city and moved to San Diego, working for The San Diego Union-Tribune. With her radio experience, Jules, frequently contributed to the sports shows on the Mighty 1090 while covering high school, college and professional sports all over San Diego County for the newspaper. While in San Diego, Jules interviewed the likes of Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers, LaDainian Tomlinson and many inspirational high school athletes.

Moving to Palm Desert, Jules jumped right into the radio world again as The Truth On Sports’ “Deal of the Day” correspondent. Incorporating business, broadcasting and sports, Jules increased sales while entertaining the community. Additionally, Jules wrote for Sports Life Magazine, covering retired and current athletes. In 2007, Jules broke into the LA market as the “Fantasy Football Guru” for KLAC 570 AM. She presented the LA market with the latest stats and analysis while entertaining and offering witty banter.

Through her various experiences, a couple things remained the same about Jules: she enjoys doing pushups as much as baking her renowned chocolate chip cookies… sometimes doing both simultaneously… She believes Otto Graham is one of the most underrated players in NFL history, is known for carrying her trusty “NFL Fact and Record Book” and is generally known as the statistician to call when you need to settle a bet.
